Galactic Mold is a limited edition VHS release of a 2 hour VJ set I did using analog video equipment I made myself. The images on this page were modelled and rendered in Blender for presentation purposes.
Recorded and duplicated on a stack of VCRs originally used for medical exams such as ultrasounds and MRIs, these VHS tapes were available in a limited-edition release and packaged in a branded sleeve displaying custom typography and graphics.
I built the video hardware by modifying vintage VJ equipment, broadcast tv equipment, and 90’s era consumer products. A variety of my pre-made animations are run through the equipment during the 2-hour VJ set, which is used to alter and distort the appearance of the images onscreen.
This episode features a veriety of visuals I made with Blender and After Effects. The 2 hour long VJ set combines a variety of different animation styles and techniques loosely inspired by 90’s CGI. Unlike my other VHS releases, Galactic Mold was not a singular style with a singular theme in mind. Instead, the project was an experiment trying a variety of different animation styles while trying to make a cohesive VJ set.
